You want it to be goopy, not too liquid, but if its too hard, too thick, it wont spread out nicely and youll have more bubbles problems. With the help of rolling pin press the dried flowers into the clay. So you really need barely anything and same, a little bit of plaster. So the hinge makes it really easy to release. So here Ill try to lift the whole part. So Ill use the narcissus and Ill place it sort of in a way that makes sense with the boundaries of my circle that I planned and then were gonna flatten it. You can, arrange your flower to give a bit more interesting detail. In about 30 minutes it had hardened. So of course, if its gonna thicken like this on its own, its also gonna do the same inside your pipes. All right, so these, I also smooth out a bit. By set enough I mean not completely dry but dry enough to remove the clay so that the mixture wont leak. That would be too, but too bad to keep it only one color. So you want to really get a good feel by hand and get an even mix with even texture. So you can use a dowel or maybe the handle of a broom or something if you dont have a rolling pin. And here the edge of the the mold is a bit angled. The last bit of rolling, of course, you want to make sure your rolling pin is nice and clean. And this is the plastic mold. You can use a tweezer or plucker to remove remaining dried flowers from hard to reach parts. And so the idea after youve poured your clay, is to shake the mold. Get a bit of air underneath A good tool for this would be a piece of string or rope to push underneath the clay to lift it off. It can contain particles which may make you sick if absorbed into the wood of the rolling pin. So this is good enough and then you have to think of a mold. This one is about one volume water for two volumes of plaster and I also add a little bit of powdered pigment in to get my mix. So I roll it out into a nice even slab. This way your clay is not exposed to air for longer and can be reused for making more casts. I think Im gonna go from green. So its fine to have overlapping leaves, but I find it works best if theyre a little bit like thinner leaves. All right, so this looks good, actually, maybe Im gonna do this one as well. So Ill use my little plastic containers, just a tiny drop of water in it, that was too much of a drop. If you use something too smooth, like if I were to use the marble of the table, it would stick really badly to it and then it would make your life really difficult. If youre using clay that youve used before, sometimes you get like here little air bubbles, I just smooth them a bit with my finger. This one is a bit of an olive branch with the olives already hanging onto it. And of course the smaller the elements you choose in terms of flowers or leaves, the more difficult it is.
