The webcam can implement its own background blurring, performed by the companys algorithms. When turned on, the webcams frame rate noticeably slowed. We recently reviewed the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 5G, a very nice prior-generation model with a 5G WWAN option. Still, as our recent tests showed, even integrated GPUs can deliver low-end gaming-class performance. That review also has more details about the display technology and Samsung's history with AMOLED, but we should still touch on the display here. While the 2022 model's design is very similar to the original Book Pro 360's, the internals have received a speed boost. On average, the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 hangs with the rest of the pack, doing better in some benchmarks than in others. Good keyboard and speakers. Maxon's Cinebench R23 uses that company's Cinema 4D engine to render a complex scene, while Primate Labs' Geekbench 5.4 Pro simulates popular apps ranging from PDF rendering and speech recognition to machine learning. In other words, theres not too much there in the low endbut. Also on tap is the Galaxy Book Experience, which is a hub for a wide range of supporting Samsung features. As mentioned, the 15.6-inch Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 starts at $1,349.99. We ran two separate tests. The screen is supremely bright, extremely colorful and brings impressive contrast. The difference may appear slight on paper, but your fingers will definitely notice. A chief example is Samsung Security, which offers several privacy-oriented features including Privacy Folder, Secret Screen, Block Recording, and Security Cam. The one-button pen, however, does not need batteries nor pairing to be used. Without Dolby Atmos, the Book2s dual speakers deliver adequate volume and a decent audio range. At this point, however, Lenovos Yoga 9i delivers on Samsungs promise and then some, with a powerful 12th-gen Core chip, a high-resolution (3,840 x 2,160) display option, and a superior keyboard. Specifically, CPU performance dropped 12 percent over time and our GPU performance benchmark maintained only 87 percent of the maximum frame rate. The Thunderbolt port can use a powerful Thunderbolt dock while the more generic USB-C ports can only take advantage of a USB-C hub or dongle. The keyboard simply isnt as comfortable as you might like. A number of Samsung-specific software utilities add premium advantages to this laptop. It covered 100 percent of the sRGB color gamut, 94 percent of AdobeRGB, and 100 percent of the S3 color gamut at default settings. The camera doesnt always follow your face accurately from side to side, either. The thinness of the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 is a key reason why it works so well as a 2-in-1 machine. We loved the thin and light build of the first, and this system is just as travel-friendly. Battery life above 14 hours should be absolutely sufficient for a day of work or even a weekend away, watching movies in the afternoon and evening. A similar stress test for 3DMarks Time spy benchmark measures whether or not the laptop can maintain the same frame rate when a test is run repeatedly. Samsung keyboards feel somewhat unique. However, the Book2 includes Intels 12th-gen Alder Lake processor, with should offer advantages in performance and battery life. Yes, the touchscreen is also there to alleviate some of this pain, but Samsung is well behind the competition here, with the excellent trackpads of the Dell XPS 13 (6/10, WIRED Recommends) and MacBook Air (9/10, WIRED Recommends) sitting in a different league. This helps support our journalism. Unlike the keys, the travel is underwhelming and far from satisfying. We've changed our benchmark tests since we reviewed the first Galaxy Book Pro 360, so we can't compare the older and newer models directly. Thin-and-light PCs do tend to suffer from thermal throttling, however, and the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 is no exception. Photo editing is well within this laptops remit, too, and even some light video editing. One of the ports on the left-hand side is a full Thunderbolt 4 port, designated by a faint black-on-charcoal thunderbolt logo. The others are the more traditional 5Gbps USB-C ports. We test Windows PCs' graphics with two DirectX 12 gaming simulations from UL's 3DMark, Night Raid (more modest, suitable for laptops with integrated graphics) and Time Spy (more demanding, suitable for gaming rigs with discrete GPUs). The former is a traditional clamshell and usually offers a bit more performance. To revisit this article, visit My Profile, thenView saved stories. Please also consider subscribing to WIRED. In brighter light (see below), it was more splotchy. Its a good indicator of overall performance across a variety of tasks. The 15.6-inch model I tested has a huge trackpad, but only the bottom half can be clicked, with the travel reducing as you move from the bottom to the center. There isnt much of a need to alter the default settings unless you want to eke out a bit more performance. Our final productivity test is workstation maker Puget Systems' PugetBench for Photoshop, which uses the Creative Cloud version 22 of Adobe's famous image editor to rate a PC's performance for content creation and multimedia applications. He has formerly written for PCMag, BYTE, Slashdot, eWEEK, and ReadWrite. However, the displays are a real selling point battery life, too. Irritating trackpad. The length of time this Samsung machine lasts is also assisted by the reluctance to step up to a higher QHD resolution. Your mileage may vary on how useful this is (some users rarely or never use the touch screen, let alone flipping the system into tent or tablet modes), but it's a nice option to have. AMOLED screens achieve this by lighting pixels via a self-emitting organic layer instead of a separate backlight. 2022 Cond Nast. We also included the $1,449 Lenovo Yoga 9i 14-inch, a second member of the new crop of Intel 12th-gen Core laptops, and the $1,099 Asus Vivobook Pro 15 OLED, an extremely attractive laptop on paper, but with some design choices that threw us off. Instead, it's the quality feel of the device, alongside its thinness, at 11.9 mm, and manageable weight, 3.11 pounds (1.4 kg), thats worth appreciating. Audio is another strong suit of the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360, but within the constraints of the traditional 2-in-1 form factor. As such, you dont get a very productivity-friendly display, afforded by a taller screen that squeezes on more text. And, combined with the 360-hinge, it makes this a great device for watching movies and TV as well as viewing your own photos and videos. Performance is silky smooth, and a pleasant keyboard is great to have as well. The continually excellent S Pen is included with the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 range, and it works speedily and accurately in tablet mode. The display of third-party trademarks and trade names on this site does not necessarily indicate any affiliation or the endorsement of PCMag. The trackpad, however, is infuriating. This dramatically improves the contrast ratio, deepening the blacks and the contrast from black to light. The Asus Vivobook Pro and the Dell XPS 15 include an entry-level discrete GPU in the form of Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, which is a clear step above the other laptops' Intel and AMD integrated graphics. The Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 laptops usability as a tablet is a saving grace. The P-series CPU shows its limits in comparison to the others, but in the grand scheme of processor performance, it still offers respectable pep. There's little to no flex in the chassis, it feels good to the touch, and it looks sharp. We test laptops' battery life by playing a locally stored 720p video file (the open-source Blender movie Tears of Steel) with display brightness at 50% and audio volume at 100% until the system quits. After a couple of laptops, in form of the Galaxy Book Flex and Ion, that flattered to deceive, Samsung shook things up with a simpler range of Galaxy Book Pro devices. The Samsung's battery life is a big plus, offering just over 18 hours of unplugged runtime. You also have the option of simply turning on a single static background color, a quasi green screen effect which is next to useless. The result is around 15 hours of battery lifeimpressive when compared to flagship rivals from Dell, HP, Razer and the likebut just a small one- to two-hour rise from the previous model. We found fault with the fingerprint reader and keyboard, but not enough to hold back our Editors Choice recommendation. We use four main tests to measure performance: PCMark 10, Cinebench (R15), Handbrake, and 3DMarks Time Spy test. Our unit doubles the latter specs to 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, which brings the price to $1,549.99. That prevented keyboard to stay enabled for any length of time until I removed my hands entirely, then tried re-engaging it. You can search for files, set live wallpapers, browse your synced photos, share files between devices, and more. Finally, we use the open-source video transcoder HandBrake 1.4 to convert a 12-minute video clip from 4K to 1080p resolution (lower times are better). The Book2 Pro also is the only model of the companys current generation to include the S Pen inside the box, which helps justify the additional price premium. This ultralight convertible is ready for anything. The convertible form factor allows greater flexibility on the road, and the brilliant AMOLED display will make long work sessions a pleasure. They arent quite MacBook level, but they are up there with the excellent Dell XPS speakers. This AMOLED screen is stunning. On one occasion, my vertical inked line jumped and joined another, as the screenshot below indicates. PCMag.com is a leading authority on technology, delivering lab-based, independent reviews of the latest products and services. These processors adopt an approach closer to how Arm chips worklike the Apple M1 series and Qualcomms Snapdragon offeringswith a mix of performance and efficiency cores. It isn't quite perfect, but the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 checks all the major boxes. When flipped around into tablet mode, it doesnt feel cumbersome to hold and operate, and this is true of the 15.6-inch model Ive tested for this review, so I would expect the smaller 13.3-inch version to offer even more comfort in this regard. Our test unit had the graphite color option, but the Book2 Pro 360 also comes in silver and burgundy. The trackpad wasnt entirely responsive, however, occasionally failing to register a click or a tap. That's by no means cheap, but pretty reasonable considering the feature set and build of the laptop as a whole. You may unsubscribe from the newsletters at any time. The all-day battery life continues to be outstanding as well and thats saying something for such a thin PC. Samsung has fully embraced the USB-C form factor. Its a real annoyance and, as such, if you arent someone who simply taps to navigate (rather thanphysically clicking) you should absolutely test it in-person before picking up the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360. The blue version available for last-years model was something of a fingerprint magnet, so the silver color may be the safe option for a tidy look. The Book2 Pro 360s webcam is decent, assuming that you cut it some slack. We use the Handbrake application to transcode a Hollywood movie into a format appropriate for storing on a tablet. Still, in testing it over a period of about two weeks the Book2 Pro 360s sensor didnt perform all that well, leaving me to enter a PIN or a password more often than not. The $1,249.99 Galaxy Book2 Pro is the manufacturers most powerful laptop option, but it includes the same Core i7-1260P processor as the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360. The Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 doesn't do a lot different from its predecessor, but an internal upgrade never hurt anyone. The main draw is a new 12th Generation Intel processor, boosting the 2-in-1's performance without changing its ultra-slim design and brilliant AMOLED display. It measures 0.46 by 13.9 by 8.9 inches (HWD), a beacon of portability among 15-inch laptops and nearly identical to the original. The resolution is 1,920 by 1,080 pixels (known as full HD or 1080p), and the image quality is very good. Wed recommend Samsungs latest 360-degree convertible laptop, as it demonstrates outstanding performance, battery life, and an appealing display. The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 is extremely capable as a media consumption machine, powered by Intels very latest 12th Gen P-series processorsbuilt for strong performance in thin and light devices. As a 2-in-1 convertible (denoted by the 360 in its name), the Samsung's screen can flip and fold into multiple orientations. The manufacturer already supplies a live background app for its desktop background and Id expect some convergence between that and the camera app eventually. To me, that helps focus my conclusion. For Samsungs new model, they represent one of the best aspects and one of the worst. It is the essential source of information and ideas that make sense of a world in constant transformation. Details are sharp and colors are vivid, thanks to the AMOLED technology highlighted in last year's model. WIRED is where tomorrow is realized. You can load up more than 30 tabs in Google Chrome with nary a flinch, and the same goes for multi-tasking, with the ability to have several apps open at a time. In order, these let you create a hidden folder on the solid-state drive, make it more difficult for snoopers to read your display over your shoulder, block unwanted webcam or microphone recordings, and provide login camera security. Samsungs Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 continues to deliver on the manufacturers strengths: thin, light laptops with lovely OLED displays for streaming video or just general productivity. Sometimes you simply need to lean out of frame while sneezing, for example, but its a good effort. As PCWorld's senior editor, Mark focuses on Microsoft news and chip technology, among other beats. The Book2 Pro 360 is among the first laptops to use Intels 12th-gen Alder Lake CPUs, which offer substantial performance improvements over 11th-gen hardware. The ink didnt quite flow from the nib, as it was off slightly. Your subscription has been confirmed. You'll also find a headphone jack and a microSD card slot, but no USB Type-A or HDMI ports. In February, Samsung announced the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 and the $899.99 Galaxy Book2 360. The same choices are available for the 13.3-inch model. Samsung bundles a number of apps with the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 such as Adobe Creative Cloud Express, Amazons Alexa, Clip Studio Paint, Disney+, Dolby Access, Google Duo, and many more. We never noticed any hiccups in office work. The audio is booming in the right places, even for such as a thin device, as well as keeping its detail and accuracy at high volumes. As noted above, the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 includes an S Pen inside the box, though without any holster to secure it. Samsung appears to be the only source of the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 right now. Picked up small marks quickly. Integrated graphics always mean modest scores in these benchmarks, and today's set is no exception. As with the recent Galaxy Book Pro 360 5G, transforming the laptop into tablet mode by flipping the AMOLED screen backwards really makes for a superior video viewing experience. Well put that assumption to the test later on in this review. Some may be dismayed that Samsung once again sticks with a Full HD panel here, but the lack of pixels doesnt tell the whole story. As youll see, that 12th-gen Core chip makes a significant difference! The speakers add to the experience, with some of the best laptop sound around. Now, Samsung is back with the follow-up range, including the sequel to one of our favorite 2-in-1s, the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360. It's perfectly proficient for general use and office productivity. This is surely due to the system's thin design, but the keys feel shallow and don't offer satisfying feedback. The display is remarkable, even if it is still held back at a Full HD resolution. Our real-world tests indicate the Samsung Galaxy Book2 performs admirably for a performance/content-creation laptop. Still no QHD option. We make sure the battery is fully charged before the test, with Wi-Fi and keyboard backlighting turned off. We dont have the other two models for a direct comparison, however. One flaw of the Galaxy Book Pro 360 5G was its anemic SSD, which can hold back the laptops overall capabilities. One of the left-side ports supports Thunderbolt 4, and any of the three can charge the laptop via the supplied AC adapter. The aluminum chassis construction feels sturdy, though theres some give in the keyboard tray if you depress it hard enough. Were not including the odd but intriguing Asus ROG Flow Z13 GZ301 here. (Note: The original configurations for the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 have a Core 5 and Core i7. These marks arent all that noticeable, but, having only been transferred to and from a bag for just over a week, its disappointing to see them crop up so easily. The difference? We compared against the 15-inch Samsung Galaxy Pro 360 5G, the 15-inch Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360, the 13-inch Surface Pro 8, and the Dell Latitude 7320 Detachable, the HP Elite DragonFly Max, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano, and the Razer Book 13. The laptop also seemed to have some issues being folded back. In my gloomy office, primarily lit by a display, the image the webcam captured was really quite good with excellent color balance and lighting. Speaking of the keyboard, we're disappointed to say that the typing experience hasn't improved since the first model. The material on this site may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, cached or otherwise used, except with the prior written permission of Cond Nast. That gets you a Core i7-1260P processor, 8GB of memory, and a 512GB solid-state drive. The only real knock on the laptops construction is that our Graphite configuration attracts smudges like crazy, so youll probably want to invest in a microfiber cloth if that sort of thing bothers you. The real test, however, is how well the laptop performs over time, as the conversion process pushes all of the cores to the limit for a prolonged period anywhere from half an hour to 90 minutes. If you do need a laptop for those purposes, look for at least an RTX 3050 Ti, and for true 3D professional tasks seek an even beefier GPU. Samsungs Galaxy Book Pro 360 5G convertible laptop included a 5G chip, which helped carve it out a viable niche as a device for working on the go. You should also pick your color option wisely. Intel's Iris Xe integrated graphics are the only choice, likely due to the system's slim design and thermal constraints, so if you want a game-worthy dedicated GPU you'll have to look elsewhere. It's an automated extension that executes a variety of general and GPU-accelerated Photoshop tasks ranging from opening, rotating, resizing, and saving an image to applying masks, gradient fills, and filters. Equally as important as performance, when it comes to getting tasks done on a laptop, are the keyboard and trackpad. Still, it clears the bar for a laptop wed recommend to our readers and wins our Editors Choice award. To be fair, though, Samsungs 15.6-inch display is significantly larger and it emphasizes inking with the included S Pen. Many of the design highlights are shared with the first Galaxy Book; you can check out that review for the key points rather than delving into them again here. Theres not a lot of key travel in the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 only 1mm, where 1.25mm or even 1.5mm is more common. Samsung continues to offer vibrant, extremely light laptops. On the connectivity front, the Book2 Pro 360 is all in on USB-C ports: There are three in total, with one on the right edge and two on the left. The 15.6-inch Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 (starts at $1,349.99; $1,549.99 as tested) is a refinement of the original convertible we reviewed last year. We came in expecting the most of the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 in terms of battery life and we werent disappointed. Keep an eye on your inbox! The rest of the field should provide plenty of context, however, and frankly most folks considering this convertible aren't people who bought the first edition last year. The latter, which is the subject of this review, is the 360-degree convertible. The latter three stand out to some extent, but the keyboard is somewhat lackluster. Over the last few years, performance differences between single processor generations haven't been great, but Intel's 12th Gen "Alder Lake" chips have impressed us. Creators, consumers, and productivity workers alike should enjoy the display. The Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 is a very good laptop, but falls a bit short of being a great one. The pressure sensitivity seemed a bit arbitrary as well. Three further benchmarks focus on the CPU, using all available cores and threads, to rate a PC's suitability for processor-intensive workloads. We tested the same games Forza Horizon 4 and Troy: A Total War Saga on the Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 as we did on the 11th-gen Galaxy Book Pro 360. I rarely heard even the whisper of a fan while in the default Optimized mode, which is accessible via the Settings app. We measured the display pushing out 374 nits of luminance, which should be perfectly fine for a well-lit room. Fortunately, most people just push a laptop to its maximum relatively briefly. The glossy display, though, does reflect quite a bit of ambient light. The difference between these two convertibles is that the Book2 360 has a 13.3-inch screen and a slightly slower processor. We don't expect any ultra-thin system to set speed records, but we'll see what it can do in the benchmarks below. There aren't many clear downsides here; portability is the main attraction. Storage performance is now somewhat faster in this new generation. But, for those who favor content consumption or creation, theres a Samsung S Pen right in the box youll certainly find a lot to like. Samsung Second Screen allows you to use a tablet as a second display for your Galaxy Book, a pretty neat feature that can mimic a desktop setup on the go. The breakthroughs and innovations that we uncover lead to new ways of thinking, new connections, and new industries. If you prefer a keyboard with a deeper key travel, consider a Lenovo laptop or a Microsoft Surface. The 1080p sensor (as opposed to the 720p sensors more commonly found on laptops) certainly helps. Intel 12th Gen offers strong performance and a battery bump.
